He was born in the USA, but he spent most of his early years in Lucknow and studied at St. Francis' College. He was a quiet student — shy but very smart and humble- and fell right away into lethargy even in high school. His early life as both an Indo-American contributed to his development as a global citizen and his ability at an early age to adapt to many environments.

So Mohan completed his high school education in the U.S. and went to Stanford University, which has global recognition for excellence. He completed a Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering in 1996. In 2005, he went back to Stanford Graduate School of Business for his MBA and was also an Arjay Miller Scholar – only the top students in each class are inducted.
